J-Funk is back!

J-Funk is back - presenting the live show featuring some of London's best musicians. J-Funk will present 3 sets of funky soul music - exploring the classics of soul, as well as featuring original music from the latest album "Meant To Be".

Finally, some live music!!

I'm very proud to announce some live show dates happening in December this year...

CDs and free t-shirts!

Yes folks, you heard me correctly - I'm giving away free t-shirts!

The album is OUT!

I'm going to give myself a quick clip - I am definitely not updating this website enough to keep you all updated, but that's going to change!!! Less talk, more action!

What makes The Roots so so good...

Upon listening to this masterpiece album, I was first introduced to the hip hop band The Roots (incidentally, this was also the first time I heard D'Angelo - on the same track with The Roots). At first I wasn't hooked - yet. A year or so later I stumbled across their latest release at the time - Things Fall Apart - the infatuation was born.

Celebrate good times - come on!

After nearly three years writing, recording, mixing and signing paperwork, I am ecstatic to tell you all that the first track off my second studio album, Meant to Be, is ready to be released.

ENTRY #3 June 2010

Dear friends I need to start off by making a sincere apology. It was my intention to always keep you regularly updated about what’s happening with the release of the new album. Unfortunately there have been complications and delays, but I can assure you that it’s coming! There have been difficulties with personnel involved with the album, but thankfully we are nearly through the woodwork. Specifically, we have still not settled on the final set of songs we will use on the album – this has been a very frustrating process! We were nearly set with 13 tracks, but unfortunately 2 of them had to be changed. So now we are working on 1 maybe 2 tracks to replace the 2 that had to be cut. So I can happily inform you that 11 tracks are recorded, mixed, mastered and ready to go! The first single will be revealed very soon – but we would like your help in deciding this. In a few weeks, we would like to give you samples of a few songs. The idea is that you are able to listen to them, then take a vote and let us know which one you like the best. The song with the most votes we will release as the first single! But that’s coming up shortly. The artwork for the album is also just about complete – you can view the cover everywhere on www.j-funk.com, as well as our myspace & facebook pages. The cover is me basically trying to reach the microphone - it represents the work & commitment needed in the music industry, with the road towards success sometimes difficult, but the success is always in view and in reach. Hope you like it! Well that’s it for now. Thanks for your patience and continued support! Looking forward to talking to you all again soon. Justin J-Funk

Entry #2 Feb 2010

Hi friends. Our gig on the 26th of Feb has been postponed...but there are bigger plans in the pipeline! You can read a bit more about this on the news page, but please stay tuned for a new date! So, this is where we're at with the new album, "Meant To Be"... Damien & I are still mixing...it has been a very busy month, especially with organising the show that was to be on the 26th of Feb, so the mixing process has slowed a little. But now that the show has been delayed, we can now really focus on finishing this thing! We are currently up to song 9 out of 13. Since last month, we have almost finished "Special Kind of Lady" & "Spend Some Time", and we are currently working on "You're Smooth Like That". I want to tell you that next month we intend to give our fans (those who are signed up to j-funk.com, J-Funk's facebook page, or J-Funk's reverbnation page) special samples of a few tracks from the new album - I can't wait for you to hear it! So, please encourage your friends to jump on the mailing list at www.j-funk.com or become a fan on the facebook page or on reverbnation - you'll find the links to all my pages on the "J-World" tab. Also, please feel free to check out our fabulous record label, working hard behind the scenes to get this thing happening! You can find Ismael Records at http://ismaelrecords.ning.com or www.myspace.com/ceotyroneismael Thanks for reading! Next month I'll be looking forward to presenting you with some new music, and a new date for the show! Best wishes, Justin

2010: Entry #1

Welcome! My new album, "Meant To Be" has been long in the process, to say the least! We began work all the way back in October 2008. Up until October 2009, I had the intention of mixing the entire album myself, but eventually learnt that I would need extra help to complete the album properly. I was blest to find a very talented sound engineer, Damien Sangally, who has been working with me now since November. We have just about completed 6 out of 13 songs. We have been on our Christmas break since the 18th of December, and we are well rested and ready to launch back into serious work on Monday! The 6 songs that have been completed are: Situations Drift Inside Your Love Heat Forbidden Love Let's Make It Last Forever C Me We are underway working on the next track, Special Kind Of Lady. And of course the other great news of 2010 so far is the news that we will play our first live show for 18 months! You may remember Phil Driver, DJ from Soul Unsigned - his radio show focuses on fantastic unsigned soul artists from around the world. His show is played on radio stations around the world - you can check out his website at www.soulunsigned.com Anyway, I have had a number of radio plays on his show, and I was also included on Soul Unsigned's 2nd volume of their compilation CD, showcasing the best unsigned talent from around the globe, particularly in the UK. So I received a call from him advising me about the intention to hold a Soul Unsigned Live show in February this year - featuring myself and another artist also involved with Soul Unsigned. The date of the show is Friday 26th February - please check out more details of the show on the "J-Shows" tab. Hope to see you on the 26th of Feb! Anyway, that's all from me now, thanks for reading! Stay tuned for entry #2 in a few weeks time, where I will update you on the album, as well as tell you more about our record label, Ismael records. Best wishes Justin
